Interview with Jean-Louis Fréchin, Digital Designer
Architect Jean-Louis Fréchin explained to Chronos why Renault's Scenic added yet another page to the car manufacture's already long saga. The Scenic's design did not align with consumers' desires to purchase more than a car - but a mobile information base. According to Fréchin, the mission of digital technology is to facilitate continuous communication for a nomadic population. In that regard, Renault missed the opportunity to establish its place in this new market. Fréchin esteems that an object's design must use new technology in order to create a practical finished product - thus rendering that product desirable to the public.
M. Fréchin, graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure of Industrial Design, created NoDesign in 2001. His digital agency was the first to specialize in the creation of innovative products and services in the field of information technology and information communication. His work is underpinned by a quest for meaning, values, and new users, based on simplicity and desire. The agency seeks to expand the role of design to meet the new challenges posed by our societies.
