Could the Cost of Transportation Lead to the End of "Desperate Housewives?"

Currently, housing costs account for nearly 30% of a household's budget. Yet according to the CNT, the Center for Neighborhood Technology, if transportation costs were included, that number would approach half of a household's expenses. CNT has developed an on line tool, which calculates median housing costs and the transportation costs associated with that area. The site is intended to help inform and empower citizens by helping them evaluate the real costs of transportation - from a full tank of gas, to the transportations costs in and around a given area. So those white-picket-fence dreams of life in the suburbs (lustfully spying on the neighbor's gardener) might soon no longer be accessible to the middle class.
